1995 3000GT VR-4: Upgraded Engine Grounding Straps
These instructions apply to a 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4, but are easily transferable to any model/year of 3000GT or Dodge Stealth.

Why Do I Want To Do This?
- Good grounding of your engine is critical to good engine performance. All current that flows through your spark plugs has to go somewhere - that somewhere is through grounding points back to the chassis (and back to the negative terminal of the battery, if you are a picker of nits).
- If you are having spark blowout problems
- If your idle is rough
- If you're suspicious of the integrity of your engine's grounding points; particularly if your OEM grounding straps are frayed or damaged.
- It's cheap; why not?

How Long Will It Take Me To Do This?
- Depending on how many you install and where you put them, somewhere between 30 and 90 minutes.

Anything I Should Do Prior To Attempting This Procedure?
- If you're installing the strap(s) near the rear of the plenum on a turbo car, removing the rear compressor outlet pipe (black) will make things easier.

- Flexible Braided Grounding Cable

Where Can I Get the Stuff To Do This?

- 12mm wrench (ratcheting-type is a real help)
- 12mm socket (1/4" or 3/8" drive)
- Universal Joint (1/4" or 3/8" drive)
- Socket Wrench

The Procedure

	Attach Strap(s) To Firewall

	Decent places to attach the straps are the locations of the bolts that secure the hard brake booster vacuum line to the firewall. Note that I've removed that part on my car, so it's not in the picture. The bolt locations remain, though.

	Attach Strap to Plenum Stay Bolt

	There's a 12mm bolt there than the OEM grounding strap uses. That location works just fine.

	Attach Strap To Plenum Stay Bolt

	Another option is to use the plenum stay bolt on this side. If you want to, install a strap in both locations to get an even better ground. I like to over-engineer things, so that's what I did :-)
