Shawn's Acquisition Journey 2005

Some Background

For now, suffice it to say that my friend Shawn has talked about one day owning a Lotus pretty much from the day I met him. It's been a dream of his for a very long time, and it's finally come true. I'm quite honored to be codriver on such a momentous occasion in Shawn's life :-) If you don't know what an Elise is, the short version is that it's a tiny 2-seat roadster that weighs just over 1900lbs and has a 190hp in-line 4-cylinder engine mated to a close-ratio 6-speed manual gearbox. The layout is mid-engine, rear wheel drive and about the only frills it has are air conditioning and a radio. In stock form, it'll hold over 1g laterally on a skidpad and has a 0-60 time around that of my VR-4. Concisely, it kicks ass and takes names.

Assortment of comments from the locals as we travel:

And for the full effect, here are some of the good ones from Tennessee and Kentucky:

Day 1: The Flight from Seattle, WA to Greensboro, NC

Day 2: The Acquisition (Charlotte, NC)

Shawn's first visit to Biscuitville (Clemmons, NC)... mmmmmm... biscuits and grits.

The unveiling...

DSC02004.JPG
DSC02004.JPG (71KB)

Carefully folding the cover as it's removed. Brad's exactly the kind of guy you want to buy a car from ;-)

DSC02006.JPG
DSC02006.JPG (75KB)

"Omigosh... this is ACTUALLY going to be mine in a few minutes!" Shawn revels in the moment for a bit.

DSC02010.JPG
DSC02010.JPG (80KB)

Explanation of the owners' manual... Brad might have a night job as a Lotus salesperson. He knows EVERYTHING about this car and was happy to help Shawn learn all about his new car.

DSC02012.JPG
DSC02012.JPG (68KB)

Brad shows Shawn the art of ingress/egress, a special skill required of all Elise owners and passengers. Previous yoga experience is highly recommended.

The beginning of "perma-grin". In Shawn's defense, I made him wear the hat.

DSC02020.JPG
DSC02020.JPG (78KB)

So pretty...

DSC02022.JPG (76KB)

Mmmmmmm... Lotusy-goodness.

"Hey Shawn, get out a sec - lemme get a picture..."

DSC02030.JPG
DSC02030.JPG (115KB)

Shawn practicing his newly-learned skill of Elise ingress. Still a little rough, but practice makes perfect, right?

DSC02031.JPG
DSC02031.JPG (104KB)

Perma-grin continues...

DSC02032.JPG
DSC02032.JPG (77KB)

"#@$%#$!!!! I'm sitting in a LOTUS! And it's MINE!"

DSC02034.JPG
DSC02034.JPG (88KB)

About to leave Brad's place. I have a minor case of permagrin, and it's not even mine!

DSC02035.JPG
DSC02035.JPG (140KB)

Shawn practices his Elise egress... it was most entertaining, but he did eventually get out. I had it easy since there's no steering wheel on the passenger's side...

DSC02036.JPG
DSC02036.JPG (139KB)

Yay! Shawn's out... if only for a moment.

DSC02038.JPG
DSC02038.JPG (75KB)

The Elise's first night in my grandparents' garage - thanks, guys!

Day 3: The Journey Begins (Clemmons, NC, to Newport, TN)

DSC02045.JPG
DSC02045.JPG (65KB)

The Elise gets to go in my parents' garage while we get some lunch...

DSC02048.JPG
DSC02048.JPG (93KB)

Shawn is pleased...

DSC02049.JPG
DSC02049.JPG (73KB)

Shawn experiences the joy that is Chick-Fil-A. Mmmmmmm.... perhaps one day we will have one in Washington.

DSC02050.JPG
DSC02050.JPG (87KB)

Minus the box that everything's sitting on, we had to get all this crap into the Lotus. Amazingly, we did.

DSC02051.JPG
DSC02051.JPG (85KB)

That boot ain't very big. Creative packing is a requisite skill...

DSC02052.JPG
DSC02052.JPG (72KB)

Suitcase? Forgetaboutit.

DSC02055.JPG
DSC02055.JPG (116KB)

I'm practicing my Lotusingress. Getting better, but still a little awkward....

DSC02057.JPG
DSC02057.JPG (106KB)

We're about to get on with the journey...

DSC02058.JPG
DSC02058.JPG (66KB)

Bye parents! Bye grandparents! See y'all at Christmas!

DSC02059.JPG

Permagrin still in full effect....

DSC02065.JPG

Yep, we're lower than a Del Sol. EVERYTHING towers over us as we fly along a few inches off the asphalt...

DSC02066.JPG

DSC02070.JPG

That's the "Meal Barn" right next to the "Deal Barn". Ain't that cute?

DSC02071.JPG
DSC02071.JPG (100KB)

Refueling ourselves and the car is a frequent occurrence with the car's 10 gallon fuel tank and a certain Elise owner (who shall remain nameless) with the self-proclaimed "bladder of a twelve year-old."

DSC02078.JPG
DSC02078.JPG (106KB)

Hmmmm.... we're so close to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Shawn didn't know what that was. Thus it was required that I introduce him to it. The small detour was well worth it.

DSC02080.JPG
DSC02080.JPG (70KB)

Day 4: The Journey Continues (Newport, TN, to Marion, IL)

DSC02121.JPG
DSC02121.JPG (55KB)

Ooooh! I guess they have Bellsouth in Tennessee... don't know why that's interesting but we have a picture.

DSC02122.JPG
DSC02122.JPG (53KB)

Nashville, here we come!

DSC02124.JPG
DSC02124.JPG (70KB)

DSC02125.JPG
DSC02125.JPG (56KB)

Hey! They have Coke in Tennessee, too! Too bad you can't see it that well since the Jersey barriers are taller than the Lotus =)

DSC02126.JPG
DSC02126.JPG (59KB)

Us next to a Volvo XC90. We feel quite small.

DSC02128.JPG
DSC02128.JPG (59KB)

DSC02129.JPG
DSC02129.JPG (84KB)

A RACEWAY gas station. I guess the Elise would feel quite at home there.

DSC02130.JPG
DSC02130.JPG (80KB)

DSC02132.JPG
DSC02132.JPG (56KB)

My, an Escalade looks huge when you're in an Elise...

DSC02135.JPG
DSC02135.JPG (47KB)

Apparently Kalifornia isn't the only place with smog issues.

DSC02137.JPG
DSC02137.JPG (48KB)

Hello Nashville.

DSC02138.JPG
DSC02138.JPG (45KB)

DSC02140.JPG
DSC02140.JPG (61KB)

Good-bye Nashville.

DSC02141.JPG
DSC02141.JPG (59KB)

Hey! We made it to Kentucky!

DSC02143.JPG
DSC02143.JPG (68KB)

Shawn's first Cracker Barrel experience. Mmmmm.... catfish, fried okra, and cornbread. Yummy.

DSC02144.JPG
DSC02144.JPG (42KB)

Look! A town named after my wife! She's really famous. We're gonna have to write to the governor of New Jersey, though, because their version looks pretty much like a dump.

DSC02145.JPG
DSC02145.JPG (40KB)

I'll be home soon, honey :-)

DSC02147.JPG
DSC02147.JPG (36KB)

Neat sunset. Probably due to not-so-neat pollution.

DSC02148.JPG
DSC02148.JPG (23KB)

Yay! We made it to Illinois. Apparently there are people here. And they want to welcome us to their state. Or so the sign says.

DSC02149.JPG
DSC02149.JPG (51KB)

The Lotus spends yet another night at a motel, this time in Marion, IL.

DSC02150.JPG
DSC02150.JPG (49KB)

DSC02151.JPG
DSC02151.JPG (72KB)

The Elise had bugs for dinner. My wife (the dental hygienist) would be yelling at it for not flossing if she were here.

Day 5: The Journey Continues Some More (Marion, IL, to Council Bluffs, IA)

DSC02153.JPG
DSC02153.JPG (64KB)

Random guy pulls up next to the Lotus, gets out, and drools a bit. This happens often, whether we're in the car or not.

DSC02154.JPG
DSC02154.JPG (47KB)

Hmmmm... a prison. "Shawn, how fast are you going? Oh nevermind, I don't want to know."

DSC02155.JPG
DSC02155.JPG (76KB)

Only 290 miles to Chicago. We tricked the sign. We're not going to Chicago. We just made the sign think we were so it would tell us how far it was to get there.

DSC02156.JPG
DSC02156.JPG (73KB)

But we ARE going to St. Louis, so we didn't have to trick that sign to tell us that we were going in the right direction.

DSC02158.JPG
DSC02158.JPG (64KB)

Construction sucks, even if it is a Sunday and nobody's there.

DSC02159.JPG
DSC02159.JPG (48KB)

DSC02164.JPG
DSC02164.JPG (48KB)

Yay! We made it to Missouri. So what exactly is it that they want us to show them?

DSC02165.JPG
DSC02165.JPG (62KB)

Missouri... was it coincidence that we saw the "Girls Gone Wild" bus headed down I-64 in Missouri? Hmmmm.... perhaps not.

DSC02166.JPG
DSC02166.JPG (40KB)

Cool! They named a street after my wife here! She's more famous than I thought!

DSC02168.JPG
DSC02168.JPG (50KB)

Omigosh - a Hummer is SOOOOO big when you're down here.

DSC02169.JPG
DSC02169.JPG (58KB)

I'm sure this guy thought we were a bit loony, but we didn't care.

DSC02170.JPG
DSC02170.JPG (44KB)

DSC02171.JPG
DSC02171.JPG (85KB)

Yup, we're lower than a CRX with a cantaloupe launcher out back.

DSC02172.JPG
DSC02172.JPG (43KB)

Wow, a Road Runner!

DSC02173.JPG
DSC02173.JPG (53KB)

... and the horn goes "Meep!Meep!" Sweeeeet.

DSC02177.JPG
DSC02177.JPG (40KB)

Higginsville apparently has a water tower.

DSC02178.JPG
DSC02178.JPG (52KB)

Almost to Kansas City...

DSC02180.JPG
DSC02180.JPG (64KB)

Construction sucks. Especially when you have to drive on the rumble strips. In an Elise. With your butt 6" off the ground.

DSC02181.JPG
DSC02181.JPG (63KB)

Still sucks, and we have a great view... of a semi.

DSC02182.JPG
DSC02182.JPG (51KB)

Oh JOY! We get to do 45mph for a while longer.

DSC02183.JPG
DSC02183.JPG (47KB)

DSC02184.JPG
DSC02184.JPG (50KB)

Those signs tried to trick us into going to Des Moines or Wichita, perhaps because we tricked one of their brethren earlier into telling us how far it was to Chicago. But we did not succumb to their trickery.

DSC02187.JPG
DSC02187.JPG (51KB)

Is that yellow light on in OUR lane? My goodness, how did that happen?

DSC02189.JPG
DSC02189.JPG (37KB)

Yay. Kansas City, MO.

DSC02190.JPG
DSC02190.JPG (31KB)

Oh look, it's Kansas! In Kansas City, no less!

DSC02191.JPG
DSC02191.JPG (55KB)

DSC02192.JPG
DSC02192.JPG (49KB)

DSC02194.JPG
DSC02194.JPG (38KB)

We didn't like Kansas. So we left. We didn't much care for Missouri, either, but as it stood between us and Iowa, we were forced to return.

DSC02195.JPG
DSC02195.JPG (55KB)

They have Subways in Missouri, in case you ever wondered.

DSC02196.JPG
DSC02196.JPG (73KB)

The Sports Car Bar... too bad it has a silly NASCAR banner on the front. The Lotus is rumored to be capable of turning right as well as left, so perhaps we should venture onward to another location where carburetors and pushrods are not idolized. They'd probably make fun of the Elise's 1.8L engine, too.

DSC02198.JPG
DSC02198.JPG (21KB)

Yay. Iowa. Apparently they have people in this state, just like Illinois. What a friendly bunch.

Day 6: The Journey Continues Yet Some More (Council Bluffs, IA, to Rapid City, SD)

DSC02199.JPG
DSC02199.JPG (85KB)

This poor moth played chicken with the Lotus's windshield wiper. It lost. Severely.

DSC02201.JPG
DSC02201.JPG (48KB)

Since we were a few hundred yards from Nebraska, we took 2 minutes to cross the river into Omaha so we could add Nebraska to our list of states we drove through... Necessary? No. Reason to make fun of us? No on that count, as well.

DSC02202.JPG
DSC02202.JPG (73KB)

Downtown Omaha. I guess they have cities in the Midwest, too.

As a side note, do you see the FORD building there? According to some of the Tennessee locals, we should be able to buy a Lotus there. I have to remind Shawn of that every so often when we pass a Ford dealership :-)

DSC02203.JPG
DSC02203.JPG (42KB)

Ok, detour's over, back to Iowa and I-29.

DSC02204.JPG
DSC02204.JPG (63KB)

Look! It's Iowa. It's flat. And there are farms.

DSC02205.JPG
DSC02205.JPG (62KB)

Down the road there are more farms.

DSC02206.JPG
DSC02206.JPG (54KB)

And even further down the road, there are yet more farms.

DSC02207.JPG
DSC02207.JPG (59KB)

Dang... I was asleep as we passed into South Dakota. Therefore it was mandatory that we turn around and get a picture of the sign. Back to Iowa we go.

DSC02208.JPG
DSC02208.JPG (42KB)

Yay! South Dakota.

DSC02209.JPG
DSC02209.JPG (52KB)

Pretty clouds. Still flat.

DSC02211.JPG
DSC02211.JPG (43KB)

Still lots of farms.

DSC02212.JPG
DSC02212.JPG (87KB)

At lunch, we happened upon a touchless carwash and decided to rid the Lotus of all the bug carnage attached to it. The owners were there doing their weekly check of the car wash's operation, and they gave Shawn the Super Duper Deluxe Special Wash on the house. How nice of them! I guess it's fun to have a unique car...

DSC02213.JPG
DSC02213.JPG (51KB)

More washing and bug removal. After this was the fun part... I opened the boot to get bottle of Griot's Garage Speed Shine out so we could shine up the Lotus, and much to my surprise, there was a great deal of water in the boot. Apparently, the latch holds the lid securely enough to allow the seals to prevent water from entering the luggage area when it rains or water is poured onto the car. However, we learned that shooting a high-pressure stream of water at the rear of the car will cause vast quantities of water to enter the luggage area. This not good. This caused us to take a few items out of the boot, place them behind the seatbacks, and drive with the windows down to dry them out. That made for about a 30 minute delay. Lesson learned: don't take the Elise to touchless car washes... or any car wash for that matter.

DSC02214.JPG
DSC02214.JPG (43KB)

We were only a couple of miles from the Minnesota border, and we'd never been to Minnesota. Now we have. Here is proof.

DSC02215.JPG
DSC02215.JPG (37KB)

Back to South Dakota for the next way-too-long miles.

DSC02216.JPG
DSC02216.JPG (41KB)

Neato clouds and sun.

DSC02217.JPG
DSC02217.JPG (37KB)

More neato clouds and sun. This is better than looking at the rest of South Dakota, which is very flat.

BTW, I'm not such a bad photographer that I can't get the horizon straight... it's hard to hold the camera still and straight while hanging out the side of a Lotus at one-... I mean seventy-five miles per hour.

DSC02218.JPG
DSC02218.JPG (141KB)

Wow. You can learn all about South Dakota from this sign. I learned that I wanted to get to Wyoming soon.

DSC02219.JPG
DSC02219.JPG (99KB)

Apparently Dick Cheney commands the Soldiers of Satan and we should stop him and his henchmen. Wow.

DSC02220.JPG
DSC02220.JPG (99KB)

If you're in the middle of Nowhere, SD, you can find someone to date from this newspaper at the rest stop. Makes me glad I'm married.

DSC02221.JPG
DSC02221.JPG (48KB)

More fun clouds and sun.

DSC02222.JPG
DSC02222.JPG (50KB)

Oh look, the Missouri River.

DSC02223.JPG
DSC02223.JPG (51KB)

And more of the Missouri River. Isn't this the 10th time we've crossed this thing in the last 2 days?

DSC02224.JPG
DSC02224.JPG (45KB)

One of the 629.7 signs along I-90 for Wall Drug. I can't believe I sat there and counted them all. South Dakota was rather boring.

DSC02228.JPG
DSC02228.JPG (76KB)

Oh lookie! It's the Elise in front of Wall Drug.

DSC02233.JPG
DSC02233.JPG (65KB)

It's me taking a picture of someone else taking a picture of the Elise in front of Wall Drug.

DSC02235.JPG
DSC02235.JPG (127KB)

The scary little animated orchestra playing inside Wall Drug.

DSC02237.JPG
DSC02237.JPG (76KB)

We ate at the bar across the street. Excellent pizza. Mmmmmmmm.

Day 7: The Journey Continues Even Longer (Rapid City, SD, to Billings MT with a Detour To Rushmore)

DSC02241.JPG
DSC02241.JPG (63KB)

Eight frickin bucks to get in to see Mt. Rushmore. Dangit. Oh well.

DSC02242.JPG
DSC02242.JPG (82KB)

The view from the Lotus at the drive-through window. Amazingly, they didn't even ask what kind of car it was when they issued the pass. Unfortunately, however, they listed it as a "Lodus". I suppose that's better than the "Lodest" that one of the hotel clerks wrote when we registered one night.

DSC02244.JPG
DSC02244.JPG (75KB)

The Lotus in a parking garage... Shawn was appropriately paranoid about being run over by SUVs backing up and not seeing the car.

DSC02245.JPG
DSC02245.JPG (66KB)

Hmmm... three Vettes all with Michigan plates. Road Trip?

DSC02247.JPG
DSC02247.JPG (130KB)

Oooooh! It's Mt. Rushmore. It's big.

DSC02248.JPG
DSC02248.JPG (131KB)

DSC02255.JPG
DSC02255.JPG (204KB)

The trail around the base of Mt. Rushmore.

DSC02256.JPG
DSC02256.JPG (83KB)

DSC02259.JPG
DSC02259.JPG (75KB)

One of the air compressors used to power the air tools used to carve the granite. I wonder if I can fit one of them into my garage. It has a 3" outlet pipe... That would power a die grinder and an impact wrench simultaneously, right? ;-)

DSC02262.JPG
DSC02262.JPG (82KB)

DSC02264.JPG
DSC02264.JPG (227KB)

Hey! It's North Carolina, where we started...

DSC02265.JPG
DSC02265.JPG (226KB)

and Washington, where we're headed!

DSC02267.JPG
DSC02267.JPG (151KB)

Look at all the state flags and the pillars saying when they were admitted to the Union. Neato.

DSC02268.JPG
DSC02268.JPG (68KB)

More pretty clouds and sky.

DSC02269.JPG
DSC02269.JPG (67KB)

The ground has started to be something else besides flat. Yay.

DSC02270.JPG
DSC02270.JPG (74KB)

Yay! Wyoming. Apparently there are no people in this state since the sign says that only the state welcomes us and not the people of the state. I guess it might also be that the people here are anti-social and don't want to welcome us.

DSC02273.JPG
DSC02273.JPG (68KB)

The scenery is pretty cool here. Sorry about the lack of a level picture... stupid wind.

DSC02276.JPG
DSC02276.JPG (49KB)

Everyone who drives the Lotus is afflicted with PermaGrin.

DSC02277.JPG
DSC02277.JPG (90KB)

Even though we cleaned all the carnage off of the Elise yesterday, it has returned today. Poor Elise.

DSC02279.JPG
DSC02279.JPG (49KB)

Yay! Montana!

Day 8: The Journey is Getting Really Old (Billings, MT, to Spokane, WA)

DSC02280.jpg
DSC02280.jpg (65KB)

As we prepared to depart, Shawn noticed something on the windshield... it was a fly. Eating from the smorgasbord of bug carcasses on the windshield. Perhaps he was eating his cousin...

DSC02282.jpg
DSC02282.jpg (98KB)

Stupid crap-tane gas. And 85.5? What's up with that?

DSC02284.jpg
DSC02284.jpg (102KB)

Need a car?

DSC02286.jpg
DSC02286.jpg (52KB)

As we were departing from BK, where we ate lunch, a guy passed us on his way in and said, "Nice go-kart ya got there!". As we were sitting in the car getting settled, he walks back out of the restaurant and comes over to Shawn's window. He says, "You guys wanna know where a really great canyon is? It's full of switchbacks and it's next to an Indian reservation and they don't allow cops on there. You hardly ever see 'em." He gave us directions and Shawn got a nice 20 minute break from Interstate driving. Here's the start of that road. Note the apparent bullet holes in the sign... sweeeet.

DSC02287.jpg
DSC02287.jpg (92KB)

Mmmmmm... corner carving with pretty scenery.

Hey Shawn, I *did* just eat lunch, and I know you like your Lotus clean...

DSC02291.jpg
DSC02291.jpg (69KB)

Bye bye Billings.

DSC02293.jpg
DSC02293.jpg (65KB)

Apparently, this is why our gas prices are so high. They're just burning a bunch of it to deplete the supply.

DSC02294.jpg
DSC02294.jpg (67KB)

This part of Montana is really pretty.

This part sucks, because they're doing construction...

DSC02299.jpg
DSC02299.jpg (61KB)

A yellow light means "go faster", right?

DSC02300.jpg
DSC02300.jpg (71KB)

Again, this sucks. As a side note, after we'd passed the van no less than 3 times during the day, it pulled into a gas station as we were about to leave. The woman stuck her head out of the window and said, "Are you the little Lotus that keeps passing me?" Shawn affirmed her suspicion. We stopped more often, but apparently we were going a little faster than she ;-)

Seeing this guy makes me want to steal gas just so I can see him in person and laugh at him and his silly uniform.

DSC02311.jpg (86KB)

Here we are next to an Excursion. Again, we feel really small.

DSC02313.jpg
DSC02313.jpg (64KB)

Mmmmm... 4 miles of twisties. Shawn was pleased.

Exit ZERO? First one I've ever seen....

DSC02316.jpg
DSC02316.jpg (102KB)

Yay, Idaho! And we get an hour back, too - how nice of them to give us a border-crossing present!

DSC02317.jpg
DSC02317.jpg (63KB)

Shawn let me drive again and the PermaGrin came back.

DSC02318.jpg
DSC02318.jpg (56KB)

Think we need to clean the windshield?

DSC02319.jpg
DSC02319.jpg (47KB)

Wow, Idaho went by pretty quickly. Hellooooo, Washington!

Mmmmmmmm, dinner at The Onion. I'd been craving their fajitas all day.

Day 9: We're ALMOST THERE!!! (Spokane, WA, to Lacey, WA with Hwy. 12 Detour)

DSC02324.jpg
DSC02324.jpg (69KB)

The maintenance guy at the hotel walked through the parking lot, saw the Elise, gawked for a bit, and then left. About 10 minutes later, he returned with one of his coworkers... this was all too common.

DSC02326.jpg
DSC02326.jpg (106KB)

Mmmmmm.... bug jerky.

DSC02327.jpg

Close-up of vast quantity of bugs that stared at the Elise a little too long.

Hello Mr. Ritzville State Patrol officer with nothing better to do than shoot laser guns at motorists as they travel through boring unpopulated areas with straight, smooth roads and good visibility in broad daylight with little other traffic. This particular WSP car shot the Elise at a range of a couple hundred yards and got a reading in the high 60's (70mph speed limit). Apparently in utter disbelief that a car as cool as the Elise could be going near the speed limit, he then lit up the Elise a second time at about 50 yards. Nope, not going any faster. Sorry Mr. WSP, not today. Fortunately, Shawn was properly warned not to exceed the speed limit a little east of Ritzville.

Omigosh! It's my first car. It has about 1/3 the horsepower of the Elise and has trouble going more than 45mph up any kind of hill.

DSC02358.jpg (99KB)

Yay, White Pass! Shawn let me drive this leg of the journey. It was quite fun going up and down the pass in the Elise. I want one.

DSC02359.jpg
DSC02359.jpg (101KB)

More White Pass. Note that we took Hwy. 12 rather than I-90 to get to I-5 since apparently a boulder-chucking giant had been a bit upset last week and took out his frustration on I-90 at Snoqualmie Pass by throwing car-sized boulders down the mountain at innocent motorists. It was down to 1 lane in the westbound direction, so we avoided the road and the ticked-off giant.

DSC02360.jpg
DSC02360.jpg (86KB)

We FINALLY made it to I-5!!! Only a few more miles!

DSC02362.jpg
DSC02362.jpg (110KB)

Shawn's driveway! 10 seconds from home!

DSC02365.jpg
DSC02365.jpg (71KB)

What's that in the garage you say? Why, a red carpet! Really, not kidding. It was even anchored with red duct tape.

DSC02367.jpg
DSC02367.jpg (82KB)

The women-folk responsible for the garage decorations...

DSC02368.jpg
DSC02368.jpg (86KB)

We're done! And the Elise is in dire need of a bath. In the background is Shawn's daily driver - a '94 Ford Escort. It also happens to be the cousin of the Elise, since they're both made by FORD (or so we were told).

DSC02369.jpg
DSC02369.jpg (130KB)

All the stuff we fit into the Elise for the trip. All in all, it was fun, but we won't be doing it again anytime soon. Shawn now knows firsthand how big the US actually is.

P.S....

My apologies to those who got my initial e-mail about the thread on the Elise Forums... apparently they require you to be a registered user to view the thread with our pictures there. This site should be viewable by all without the need to register anywhere.

And my most sincere apologies to my brother, Jason, who appeared to be the most distressed at his inability to see the pictures of our journey. His e-mail was as follows:

i can't log in!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ps i'm totally drunk !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111111

... and a bit later...

for those that are part of my family that respect me:

i'm not drunk! really and truly! and i didn't mean to respond>all before.

to those that are not part of my family: i didn't mean to watch sin city on
dvd with my girlfriend and drink lots of shots of various boozes that i
didn't intend to make me so drunk that i can't internet.

ps: my brother is way more responsible than me. but that's okay. i have
three years to catch up.

pps: i will regret this in the morning.
